We’ve provided general information to help you prepare for voting; however, if there’s any topic you’re still uncertain about, please visit: https://www.usa.gov/voting-and-elections for reliable and up-to-date information on voting and elections. Here are a few things to keep in mind before heading to the polls this November!

Registration Deadlines and Status

Each state has different deadlines for voter registration. For example, Californians must be registered to vote at least 15 days before Election Day. Be sure to check your registration status before your state’s deadline. You can check your voter registration status here: https://www.nass.org/can-I-vote/voter-registration-status

Voter ID Requirements

Each state has different ID requirements for voting. Check with your state’s requirements to know what form of identification you need to bring to the polls. Most states require voters to bring identification when voting in person.

Accessible Voting for Non-Native English Speakers

Many states offer ballots and assistance (including online resources) in multiple languages. Non-Native English speakers can also request materials in their preferred language.

Vote-by-Mail

If you cannot make it to the polls on November 5th, some states give voters the option to vote by mail. States that have implemented a vote-by-mail option automatically send ballots to all registered voters before Election Day. Click here for a list of states that allow voting by mail.

Polling Location and Hours

Voting Rights for First-Time Voters

First-time voters may not be familiar with the voting process. Plan ahead and be prepared. Check your registration status early, know what identification is required to vote in your state, take the time to review your ballot, and don’t be afraid to ask questions or request help!

Voting is a powerful tool to make your voice heard, so take pride in participating in this year’s presidential election!
