March is Women’s History Month–a time to celebrate the powerful, trailblazing mujeres who have shaped history and paved the way for future generations. However, this month is also about celebrating ourselves and the strong women who surround us every day.

This Women’s History Month, let’s commit to honoring self-love, intentional sisterhood, and caring for one another as well as our community. After all, Latina sisterhood is all about empowering and uplifting one another. Remember, una mujer empoderada y segura de sí misma inspires everyone around her.

Read on to discover a few ways to honor yourself – and the powerful mujeres in your life – this Women’s History Month!

Self-Love as an Act of Resistance

For Latinas, self-love is nothing short of a revolutionary act. Too often, in many of our cultures, we’re taught to prioritize family, work, and community, above all else. While those values are beautiful, it’s equally important to remember this truth: you can’t pour from an empty cup.

Let this month be a time that you challenge yourself to embrace self-love. Treat yourself like your own best friend. Set boundaries without guilt. Take yourself on a solo date. Write a love letter to yourself, celebrating how strong you are and how proud you are of all you’ve accomplished and endured. Remember that you are a priority.

Set and manifest clear affirmations like:

  • Soy poderosa y merezco lo mejor.
  • I honor my cultura and my healing journey.
  • Soy capaz y soy pura magia.

Celebrating Your Hermanas (Real & Chosen)

Spreading positivity, uplifting our amigas, primas, and hermanas is second nature–it’s part of who we are as Latinas. Take the time this month to take sisterhood to the next level by honoring and celebrating the fierce women who show up for you. Here are a few ways you can celebrate together:

  • Coordinate a spa day, brunch, or cafécito hangout
  • Shout out your amigas’ small business and support them
  • Create a shared playlist where you can all share your favorite song
  • Send a handwritten note or cute card

Whatever way you choose to acknowledge the fierce friendships that surround you, take the time to give them the attention and love they deserve!

Learn, Honor, & Celebrate Latina Trailblazers

Women’s History Month is jam packed with stories of powerful women who’ve shaped history which includes so many incredible Latinas. Take time this month to learn about these historical women and share their stories with friends, family, and social platforms. Here are a few ways that you can do this:

  • Watch documentaries that spotlight Latina trailblazers
  • Read books by iconic Latina authors
  • Follow and support Latina creators who uplift our stories on social media

However you choose to shed light on these powerful women, take the time to honor and recognize them. Here are four Latina Trailblazers that we are celebrating this month:

  • Sylvia Rivera – Transgender rights pioneer and activist
  • Dolores Huerta – Labor leader, civil rights activist, and co-founder of the United Farm Workers
  • Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez – A modern-day changemaker who is redefining the roles of women in leadership
  • Ellen Ochoa – The first female Latina astronaut to travel to space

No matter how you choose to celebrate this month, remember: we are part of history in the making. This month isn’t only about the trailblazers throughout history, but it’s also about all of us who continue to live out their legacy each and every day.

Every time you practice self-love, uplift your amigas, and embrace your power, you’re writing your own piece of history. Let’s make this month a celebration of ourselves, our amigas, and everything we bring to the table–Happy Women’s History Month!
