It’s soccer season and we’re excited to dive into all things NWSL related. Today, we’re spotlighting four Latina trailblazers that are absolutely lighting up the National Women’s Soccer League. These teams and talented players shine brighter when they reflect the diversity of the fans who cheer them on wholeheartedly. As Latinas, it’s important for the brands, teams, and products we support to make us feel seen and included, and so it’s important to spotlight the Latinas not only making headlines for performance, but more importantly for the cultural visibility they bring to the sport.

Here are four standout Latinas currently doing big and exciting things in the NWSL and why their presence matters for current generations (Gen Z and Millennials) and many more to come!

Débora Cristiane de Oliveira

Better known as Debinha, this 34 year old rock star is a forward for Kansas City Current. One of the most fierce and talented attackers in the NWSL, Debinha joined Kansas City in 2023 and has kept a consistent record since, maintaining a spot among the league’s top contributors. As a Brazilian national, she is an inspiration and role model for Brazilian and Latina fans tuning in to watch the NWSL. Debinha started her soccer career in Brazil and her talent led her to play for teams in different countries such as Norway and China before making her way to the NWSL in 2017.

A player of talent and immense value to the Latina community.

Sofia Huerta

Sofia Huerta, 33, is a Mexican-American defender/midfielder for Seattle Reign FC. Skilled both defensively and going forward, she’s more than stats, she’s a visible role model for Mexican-American and Latina players everywhere. Born in the U.S. to a Mexican father, Huerta embraces life between two cultures. Sofia has represented both Mexico and the United States internationally, her dual identity shapes her game and impact. As a U.S. born Latina with deep ties to Mexico, she inspires young players balancing both identities at the highest level.

Gabi Portilho

Gabi Jordão Portilho, a 30 year old Brazilian soccer player and a forward for the San Diego Wave FC is another great example of an inspirational and trailblazing Latina within the world of sports and fútbol. As a Brazilian forward and midfielder, Portilho is known for setting up creative attacking options for her team as well as keeping the growth and competitive quality alive and well within the sport. Her career has taken her to different countries and many teams, but her current position with San Diego Wave FC is where she’s letting her talent and fierce determination take way.

Ludmila da Silva

A 31 year old Brazilian national and professional soccer player, Ludmila is a forward for the San Diego Wave FC. She began her career in the NWSL in 2024 with the Chicago Stars and later joined her current soccer club in January 2026 in a high-profile transfer. This has been a pivotal moment for her professional and athletic career, but also serves as a turning point for Latinas and how they’re represented in the industry. As a Latina who just signed a multi-year deal in the NWSL, Latinas couldn’t be more excited about this trailblazer that represents us in more than one way.

These four immensely talented women are just a snapshot of the dedication, skill, and influence Latina athletes bring to the NWSL.
