Not all forms of healing and therapy look the same–and sometimes, you find it in the most unexpected places. Sometimes it might look like the group chat, a hot girl walk, or game night with amigas and/or primas. Today, we’re exploring how friendship and community serve as emotional support and how they can be incredibly powerful tools for mental wellness.
Read on to learn how to tap into the support from the communities around you–and how you can show up as support for others. In this piece, we’re diving into the power of finding your people and the healing that comes with it.
The Group Chat = Therapy

One thing that’s never failed us (and probably never will) is the group chat. It’s the space where your closest, most trusted friends gather, and where judgement doesn’t exist. This is a safe zone to vent, laugh, cry, share accomplishments, send updates, celebrate wins, and just be real.
In these digital círculos, voice notes, memes, and photos create a sense of safety and connection. Sometimes, all you need to feel seen and heard are your amigas and primas on the group chat. Talking about what you’re going through gives your feelings space and helps you move forward. Share the good vibes, the deep convos, and the silly stuff–because that’s all part of the healing.
Healing in Community

Mental health isn’t something we need to navigate alone. There’s real strength in numbers, and even more strength in finding a community that understands your struggles. Support systems that are informed, consistent, and rooted in empathy can be a powerful part of your wellness journey.
Find a community where you feel seen, heard, and understood. It could be an online community, a weekly support group, or even a club tied to a new hobby. Healing comes in many forms, there’s no one-size-fits-all, and there’s no “right” way to do it. Find what works for you!
Expanding Your Circle

Building your circle in real life is also a beautiful way to nurture your mental well-being. Mental wellness isn’t just about vulnerability and opening up, but it’s also about finding joy in movement, play, and meaningful connection.
Consider joining:
- Latina-led run clubs
- Book clubs
- Folklórico or Zumba classes
- Community gardening groups
- Chess nights, cooking classes, or art collectives
Use social media to search for hashtags, local accounts, or events near you–or check out local rec centers for hidden gems in your community.
Build or Join the Space You Need

Can’t find a group that speaks to you? Create one! If you’re craving a certain type of space, chances are someone else is, too. Start by defining what kind of group you’d like to build, then invite others–start small, even if it’s just once a month. Remind people (and yourself) that showing up is self-care.
Do it for the buenas vibras–and the chance to create something meaningful!
There’s so much strength in community, especially in finding your niche pocket of people who understand you. Fill yourself and your soul with connection, happiness, and laughter, and watch how that light spills into every part of your life.
